Between the 16th and 19th centuries, over ten million West Africans were enslaved by European traders and transported to work in their New World colonies. Although Britain started trading in slaves later than Portugal and Spain, she was to become the greatest slave trading nation of all.

The impact that this barbaric human trafficking had on Britain is unquestionable, yet in the perhaps single greatest act of collective amnesia in British history it is rarely acknowledged.
